Struggling Bravely and Honestly
Sometimes people get very uncomfortable hearing about pain. Once it's spilled out of one person, the listener usually doesn't know what to do with it. Although the listener maybe sympathetic to a certain degree, it takes the same amount of brokenness, boldness, vulnerability and empathy for the receiver to be able to run with it. This is why God made counselors...I believe. I have no negative perceptions about therapy or counseling. As a professional counselor and a Christian, I believe that emotional health is an integral part of living a full life as human beings. Becoming Christ like and conforming into His image requires us to be intimate with God. Intimacy with God can be acquired when we get rid of the filters that taint our view of self and God. Counseling is an effective tool to strip down the unwanted filters and veils that acts as a barrier between us and God. It helps us see God and His creation (self) with the correct lens.
