Prayer for My Children Day 24: Hope
The Lone Cypress, standing firmly planted surviving through harsh circumstances. |
This entry I'd like to share with my best friend Jennifer. Just the other day she and I shared our anxiety and frustration of our children's spiritual life. We met in a college group almost 30 years ago and have been friends since! When we first met, we were both all-black wearing Manhattan college girls, hip and young. Yeah, tell that to our girls! We grew (older) together over the years and share so much secrets, wisdom, laughter and tears. I can always, always count on her! We are like sisters we picked for ourselves as we both are sisterless. We grew together through college group drama, dating fiasco, mission trips, God-encounters, bitter relationships, heartbreaking life struggles, mistakes, confusion, rebellious times, marriage drama, parenting fiasco, God encounters...etc. etc. We grew through our own experiences of life- the hard way.
So did Apostle Paul. He learned to trust God through his own experiences that God is always faithful no matter the circumstances. He learned to depend on God by surviving through countless ups and downs to know that he can do anything only through God who strengthens him (v.13). He discovered the secret of contentment and hope through being broken, beaten, locked up...etc. Through his own life experiences- the hard way.
I am reminded this morning again, that I have the hope in God and He is at hand for me and for my children (v. 5). I need to surrender again and again. Leave my anxiety at the Cross. Make request know to Him persistently until peace comes. I surrender anxiety and find hope with rejoice and thankfulness. I replace frustration with thankfulness. He is at hand.
So, my friend, you and I need to remember that we both have had the time to learn through life- the hard way to trust, depend and you know...be holy. Ha! Love you sister! And I surrender once again today.
